Our program will be transitioning to a new method of selecting captains. All juniors and seniors will be considered “captain candidates” and can earn the title by demonstrating consistent leadership. Here’s how it will work:
Leadership starts in summer — Upperclassmen should model positivity, consistency, responsibility, initiative, and inclusivity during off‑season training. Aspiring captains should have regular attendance at summer practices.
In-season evaluation — Coaches observe attitude, communication, reliability, and impact during the the season.
Earned captaincy — Any junior or senior who remains a positive leader in good standing will be named a Team Captain at the banquet
Multiple captains possible — Leadership is not limited to a set number; all athletes who meet the standard are recognized.
Osseo CC Leadership Standards:
Positivity — Encourages teammates, brings constructive energy, and helps maintain a welcoming team culture.
Consistency — Attends summer training, practices, and meets reliably; communicates conflicts responsibly.
Responsibility — Demonstrates maturity, follows team expectations, and represents the program with integrity.
Initiative — Takes action without being asked; supports younger athletes; helps organize team routines.
Inclusivity — Makes all teammates feel valued, regardless of grade or ability.
This system rewards daily actions, encourages authentic leadership, and aims to strengthen our team culture.
